Luca Casini: Planet

Planet and Planet Q form part of Luca Casini’s work for Olivari. The manufacturer dates Planet Q to 2006. Its square rose sharpens the geometric composition, while radiused lever edges support the grip. Calling it simply “angular” misses that transition between a precise visual outline and a softer contact surface. Compare B and QB versions through their own technical sheets rather than assuming all mounting details are identical.

Prices, finishes and availability are shown on the individual product pages. Check the selected configuration before ordering.

02 / Biography

Luca Casini

Born in Bologna in 1964, Luca Casini opened his Milan studio in 1997 after graduating in architecture. His practice has addressed many product categories. We place three examples, from kitchen equipment to tableware, beside the Planet handle family. This makes a door lever a starting point for exploring a broader interest in surfaces and in the relationship between technical construction and everyday use.

Our reading

Geometry you can touch

A clear grid and blue accents give the page an editorial structure, with generous image areas to reveal profiles and junctions. This is our interpretation of precision and tactility. In an interior, compare round and square roses directly against the door design. Their relationship to frames, grooves and neighbouring fittings can change the result. Evaluate the finish in the intended lighting conditions, where polished and satin surfaces respond differently.

Editorial perspective

A comparison of Planet and Planet Q can begin where the handle meets the door. Round and square roses organise the space around the lever neck differently. Consider that junction alongside the door profile and nearby fittings. The choice is more specific than a label such as “modern”: it concerns the actual relationship between lines, proportions and surfaces.

A second comparison concerns light. Polished and satin finishes produce different reflections, and their appearance changes with the position of a window or artificial lighting. When comparing photographs, remember that framing and illumination can emphasise or soften the apparent edges. For a final decision, use the finish code and, where available, a sample viewed in the intended environment. Do not treat a screen image as an exact colour reference.

Our Javier López profile continues the discussion of planes and roses, while Enzo Mari offers a comparison with a more continuous line. These reading paths help describe a preference without confusing product families or variants. Record the complete model name, including B or QB where present, and check the technical drawing for the chosen article.

From a designer’s name to the right handle

Start with the door rather than a finish swatch. Note whether you are specifying an internal hinged door, a window or a lift-and-slide opening. A lever, a DK window handle and a pull handle perform different jobs. A shared collection name helps coordinate appearance, but does not make these mechanisms interchangeable.

  1. Choose the product. Open a card above and confirm the intended use, rose shape and version. Check the technical drawing against the existing preparation or the door supplier’s specification.
  2. Check the configuration. Identify the lock or privacy function, spindle, fixing method and any relevant door thickness. Confirm what the selected pack includes; a half set and a pair are different quantities.
  3. Compare the finish. Consider touch points elsewhere in the room, lighting and cleaning requirements. Photographs are a useful introduction; the named finish code is the reference for an order.
  4. Prepare the quantities. Count door sets, window handles and accessories separately. Record the product link, finish code and required quantity for each room before asking for a quotation.

If you are unsure, send the product links and clear photographs of the door and existing hardware through our contact page. Tell us what you want to replace. Technical compatibility needs to be checked for the specific configuration; a designer’s signature alone does not establish suitability.
